Bristol Academy
High School Courses for Home-Educating Families
Drama
-
This Theatre Course will focus on cultivating foundational techniques in Acting, Projecting, and World-Building. We will develop these skills while preparing for a performance of a play.
-
All High School students, as well as mature 8th grade students, are welcome. No musical, dance, or theatrical experience is required. The only requirement is a willingness to learn.
-
This Fall we will be tackling an adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey. This adaptation was written by a local playwright specifically with high school students in mind. The show is written with a Greek Chorus, which means that all of the actors will serve as narrators that will step into multiple roles throughout the story. Together the students will become cyclops, sea monsters, a ragtag gang of sailors and much more. This will be an excellent opportunity to teach students about traditional Greek theater as well as the mythology and history that is
built into the classic story of the Odyssey.
-
The Students will likely stay on stage close to the whole show, so my expectation is that they come to each rehearsal focused and ready to work together to create a new world through our story.
-
In Addition to our normal class period we will also have a dress rehearsal and performance. Those dates will be released closer to the beginning of class. Likely it will be the week following the official end of the class (as it was with last year's musical).
-
Auditions will be held the week before classes begin. The audition materials will be sent out after registration. (This will consist of icebreaker games, monologue, scene work.)
-
This class will be capped at 20 students to ensure that everyone has the sufficient
opportunity in the show.
-
Students earn 1/2 credit for a High School elective course. Parents are responsible
for managing the transcript for their student. As a performance-based class, the
instructors prefer to grade it as a pass/fail with recommendations for grading as
needed.
-
If you have any other questions please reach out to the Instructor.
