JOIN OUR TEAM

Due to Tim Hensley's unexpected illness, Bristol Academy is currently in search of an English teacher for the following two courses: (click on the course titles to see a full description.)

  - GRAMMAR & COMPOSITION (Part II)

  - WESTERN LITERATURE

We understand and expect that any new teacher would want to make some changes to the course content, but we would like someone who would teach the courses as closely to the description as possible.  Currently, the classes meet on Tuesdays from 10:30 - 12:00 and 12:30 - 2:00, however, this could be adjusted to 9:00 - 10:30 and 10:30 - 12:00.

Bristol Academy instructors set their own course fees.  Students have previously paid $175 per course, per semester, for Mr. Hensley's English classes, with a 10% discount for siblings.  Currently, there are 8 students in the Grammar & Composition (9th grade) course, and 5 students in the Advanced Composition (11th grade) course.  It is anticipated that all of these students would continue in January, and new students may be added.  However, enrollment is not guaranteed until our registration evening on January 5th.  Any teacher is welcomed to set a minimum enrollment number.

Ideally, we are looking for someone with the following credentials and experience:

  - a degree in English or perhaps a published author;

  - teaching experience (helpful, but not mandatory);

  - comfortable teaching high school grammar, composition and literature;

  - a Christian world view (important to most of the parents of our students);

  - someone who can bring energy and enthusiasm to the classroom to help light the fires of learning.

Please explore this web site to find out more about our current instructors and classes.  Especially notice our CALENDAR and FAQ pages.  You will see that we are a small group but focused on high-quality academics.  For over ten years, we have successfully connected committed home-educated teenagers with excellent teachers who have a bit of time, energy, and enthusiasm to devote to our kids.

If you are interested in applying to join our teaching team, please send a 1-4 page document (.pdf or .doc) listing your credentials, a couple of references, and any other pertinent information, to leaders@bristolacademy.org.  We will start considering applications on December 8th, so please have your application to us by that time.  As long as this posting is on our website, you can assume that the position is still open.

And finally, here are a few testimonials from other Bristol Academy teachers regarding our students:

     "The students at Bristol Academy home school are an amazing group of students, whose maturity, desire to learn, responsibility, motivation, and respect exceed that of any other group of students I have taught.  They make my job of teaching much easier, as well as more pleasurable and rewarding.  Cudo's to the students and their parents!"  -- Meredeth Perhne, Instructor for Bristol Academy's science classes

     "I reluctantly agreed to substitute teach for Mr. Hensley's classes when he became ill this fall.  However, after the first few weeks, I realized that I was thoroughly enjoying the classes.  The students were what made it such a joy.  They were attentive, respectful, and open to learning.  My thanks to them for making my time as a substitute fun and productive!" - Karen Blackard
