LITERATURE:

British Modern Era

Literature: British Modern Era is a one semester class with a lecture and discussion focused survey of British literature by the group known as "The Inklings."

  • We will read and discuss works by Lewis, Tolkien, and others. The intent of this class is to foster an appreciation for the literature of the period, as well as reveal historical connections and influences.

  • Course assignments will include short response papers (2-3 pages), in class presentations, pop-quizzes, and mid-term exam.

  • There are no prerequisites for this class, though some experience with short essay writing is encouraged.

  • This course is worth 1/2 credit of high school English.

  • Your student should be familiar with Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy as we will discuss the books in class, but not read them.
