High School Courses for Home-Educating Families
WESTERN LITERATURE
Western Literature is equivalent to one semester of an 11th grade high school English class.

Topics include themes in Western literature, the Christian worldview, and the flow of Western thought. Literature surveyed includes: excerpts from the Old and New Testaments, The Iliad, Aesop's Fables, Plato's Allegory of the Cave, Aristotle's Poetics, Augustine's Confessions, Dante's Divine Comedy, Cervantes' Don Quixote, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, Luther's Bondage of the Will, Pascal's Pensees, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, and Macbeth, the works of John Donne, Samuel Johnson, Samuel Pepys, and other British notables. Also, Tolstoy, Maupassant, and Solzhnitsyn.

Class time will consist of short lectures, discussions, individual and group exercises.

Work requirements outside of class will include weekly reading and writing assignments, regular quizzes, in-class readings and critiques of student work.

There are no pre-requisites for this class other than a 12th grade reading level.

A student successfully completing this class will earn 1/2 credit of high school English.
CLASS FEE
Western Literature:
$125.00 - payable at Spring registration
Sibling Discount: If a family is taking multiple classes from Mr. Smith, there is a 20% discount on the total. So, $200 for two concurrent classes.
Each Bristol Academy student must also pay for insurance and for use of the church.
These fees are per-student, not per-course.
